Palliative Medicine

Dr. Hal Siden, Division Head and Medical Director

The Division of Palliative Medicine provides both direct and consultative care to children and families living with serious, life-threatening/life-limiting conditions. We work closely with Nurse Practitioners, Advanced Practice Nurses, and Counselors based at Canuck Place Children’s Hospice. The Division is responsible for care of children at the two hospice locations, at BC Children’s Hospital /BC Women’s Hospital, and through community consultation to other hospitals and families at home throughout BC.

Members of the Division also have joint appointments in General Pediatrics, Newborn Services, Complex Care, and Oncology/Hematology/BMT. We do research in many areas including health services, symptom management, and psychosocial care.

Senior residents in Pediatrics, Sub-Specialty Fellows, and adult Palliative Medicine Fellows rotate through the service as trainees. We are pleased that the Division will be home to the new UBC Royal College Pediatric Palliative Medicine Fellowship.
