Faculty and staff from the BC Injury Research Prevention Unit

UPDATED June 20 2023

The Department of Pediatrics is located at the BC Children’s Hospital (BCCH). Conceptually and practically, it has a dual identity: it is the Department of Pediatrics of the Faculty of Medicine, University of British Columbia (UBC), and it is the Department of Pediatrics, BC Children’s Hospital, an Agency of the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA). As such, the Head is not only the Head of the Department of Pediatrics at UBC, but is also Chief, Pediatrics Medicine, BCCH. The Department’s faculty, almost all of whom are pediatricians, are academic or clinical appointees of the University of British Columbia and are based at BCCH, Sunnyhill Health Center for Children, or in community practices.

The Department is also in partnership with BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute where our faculty members who engage in research have access to a top research facility, funding and research infrastructure allowing academic collaboration to occur.

UBC Faculty Of Medicine
The UBC Faculty of Medicine educates health professional and life sciences students at the undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate levels, and pursues research – in the laboratory, in clinical settings and at the population and public policy level – to improve the health of people worldwide.

BC Children’s Hospital/BC Women's Hospital & Health Centre/PHSA
BC Children's Hospital (BC Children's) provides expert care for the most seriously ill or injured children from across British Columbia. Child development and rehabilitation is provided by Sunny Hill Health Centre for Children, a program of BC Children's.

In addition to providing specialized pediatric services — many of which are not available elsewhere in the province – BC Children's is the province's leading teaching and research facility for child health.  BC Children's Hospital, including Sunny Hill Health Centre, delivers child and youth health and rehabilitation services and is the province's major treatment, teaching and research facility for child health, with over 200,000 children cared for on an annual basis.

BC Women’s Hospital & Health Centre is the only dedicated hospital and health centre for women in British Columbia.

The existence of a facility like BC Women’s means that women’s health issues receive the attention they deserve. BC Women’s has a provincial mandate to act as a resource for women and health care providers across BC and the ability to attract the best health care providers and researchers to realize improvements in women’s health.

BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute
Incorporated in 1995, the BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute (formerly the Child & Family Research Institute(CFRI)) is the largest research institute of its kind in Western Canada, spanning a wide range of children's and women's health concerns. http://www.bcchr.ca/
