Congratulations Sabrina Gill, Division of Adolescent Health and Medicine!

Sabrina Gill, BSN, of the Youth Health Clinic in the Division of Adolescent Health and Medicine was recognized for her exemplary work over the years with the Award for Excellence in Nursing Practice on May 8, 2018!

Sabrina has made many contributions over many years in both the inpatient and outpatient setting. With enthusiasm (and not a small amount of humour) she has led and guided the development of the Youth Advisory Committee for BC Children’s Hospital (YAC) has engaged many adolescent patients with chronic medical conditions, and their parents, to provide guidance in creating a youth friendly environment for young people at BC Children’s.

Youth from YAC have made presentations at national medical conferences to educate physicians and others on the challenges of transitioning from the pediatric to the adult medical systems with the burden of living with a chronic medical condition. Sabrina has been their guide through this journey. Her work in leading YAC was crucial in the highly successful recognition of BC Children’s by Accreditation Canada in demonstrating patient and family engagement.

Sabrina has been a strong advocate for interdisciplinary care and fostered close collaboration with other clinical services, in particular mental health, and effectively engages young people and their families with community services.

Sabrina is always enthusiastic and forward thinking. She has an intuitive grasp of young people’s needs  and has brought the voice of youth to BC Children’s Hospital.
