We are pleased to announce the promotion of Dr. Emily Kieran to Head, Division of Neonatology, effective August 1, 2024.
We are grateful for her service to the organization as Interim Division Head since January 1, 2023.
Dr. Kieran obtained her Bachelor of Medicine from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, and then she went on to pursue General Pediatrics and Neonatology training at the Royal College of Physicians in Ireland, Dublin. In 2015, she completed her PhD from the University College Dublin, Ireland. That same year, she moved to Vancouver to complete a Fellowship in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine at the University of British Columbia (UBC) and BC Women’s Hospital + Health Centre (BCWH). In 2018, Dr. Kieran was recruited as a Neonatologist at BCWH and in 2019 she was appointed as a Clinical Assistant Professor with the Department of Pediatrics, Faculty of Medicine, UBC.
Dr. Kieran’s area of clinical and research interest involves the care of Neonates with Complex Medical Needs, specifically those on long-term respiratory support and technology dependant at discharge.
She leads the BCWH Neonatal Complex Care Team, which in collaboration with many subspecialities across BC Children’s Hospital (BCCH), is leading the care of this patient population in Canada and Internationally.
Dr. Kieran is excited to be taking on the role of Division Head permanently and leading its exceptional team of staff and faculty. She is looking forward to strengthening collaborations with other Divisions within the Department of Pediatrics and other Departments across BCCH and BCWH.
The Department’s leadership team and I look forward to working with Emily to support the success of the neonatology team at our campus.
