Celebrating International Women’s Day: Embracing equity starts with listening to our young female patients’ voices

Embracing equity starts with listening to our young female patients’ voices.

Having conversations about biases and adversities is the seed of equity for women in all areas of healthcare.

For example, recognizing the disparities in pain care for IBPOC women and supporting inclusive leadership roles. Embracing equity is a healthcare community where women of colour have a sense of belonging, being valued and seen.

As a nurse and mother of two daughters, collective activism drives my passion for being part of this positive change.

Sending a hug of #EmbraceEquity to my women of color mentors at BC Children’s Hospital; Dr. Mumtaz Virji, Dr. Shazan Ahmed, Dr. Tatiana Sotindjo, Dr. Sara Jassemi, Flavia Mandic, Dawn Tisdale, Sandy Tatla, Susan Poitras, Sarb Randhawa, Sarbjit Bains, Charlene Black, and Michelle Man.

With gratitude,
