Kudos to some of our heroes at our Community-Based Distributed Teaching Sites

Island Health:
A big shout out to Drs. Krystal Cullen, Division Head, Pediatrics & Keith Menard, Maternity Care & Pediatrics Department Head at Island Health for their caring and outstanding leadership this past year.

And congratulations to Dr. Henry Stringer! The 2020 recipient of The Vancouver Island Clerkship Preceptors Teaching Excellence Award for his outstanding dedication, enthusiasm, and respect as a clerkship preceptor. – Dr. Brett Schrewe MDCM, MA, FRCPC, Clinical Asst Professor, Dept of Pediatrics, UBC

Southern Medical Program:
In honor of our inaugural Canadian Women Physicians Day, a day designated to honor women’s achievements in medicine. I would like to pay tribute to Dr. Alysha Mackenzie-Feder who has been amazing this past year.

She has gone above and beyond, taking the education lead in our department for acute care and ensuring that our department was recognized for best practices for pediatric acute care during the pandemic. Alysha also led our group in pediatric simulation and provided education support for students, residents and staff.

– Dr. Shannon Wires, MD, FRCPC, Clinical Instructor, Dept of Pediatrics, UBC

Northern Medical Program:
We would like to acknowledge our Administrative Assistant, Lisa Lakusta, who will be retiring from the department after years of working for and with our residents. Lisa has been instrumental in the planning, scheduling and implementation of all of the UBC pediatric resident rotations that come to Prince George.

She has been a keen supporter of the Community Impact Training Program and is the administrative ‘point person’ for all of our CI residents, as well as for all pediatric residents who come for elective blocks in Prince George.

We wish her the best and she will be sorely missed!

– Drs. Kirsten Miller, MD FRCPC and Dr. Lara Rachel Malks-Jjumba, MD, FRCPC
