Magnetic resonance imaging scientist Dr. Christian Kames from Dr. Alexander Rauscher’s UBC MRI lab has won the 2016 International Quantitative Susceptibility Mapping (QSM) Reconstruction Challenge for creating the best method currently available. QSM is a technique that turns an MRI scan into a high resolution map of magnetic properties of biological tissues. Due to its high sensitivity, QSM promises to become a marker for tissue damage and repair in the central nervous system.
