catherinepallenCongratulations to Dr. Catherine Pallen recipient of the 2016 Faculty of Medicine Award for Excellence in Mentoring Early Career Faculty. This award is a very strong affirmation of her contribution in mentoring.

The Awards Reception will be held on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at 5:30 pm at the University Golf Club.

Dr. Pallen is a Scientist Level 3, CFRI Professor
Division of Hematology and Oncology, Department of Pediatrics, University of British Columbia
Associate Member, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine
University of British Columbia Scientist, Michael Cuccione Childhood Cancer Research Program

Dr. Pallen’s lab investigates the molecular control of cell movement to understand how aggressive cancer cells are able to spread through the body. Her team is focused on a group of enzymes called protein tyrosine phosphatases (PTPs), which control cellular processes that go awry in cancer cells. The purpose of this research is to identify how these enzymes regulate cell movement and can be targeted for treatment to prevent migration to other parts of the body. Other research in Dr. Pallen’s lab focuses on how to repair damage caused to the brain by radiation treatment.
