The CFRI Scholars of Excellence program provides exceptional individuals an opportunity to generate an innovative and independent research program under the mentorship of world-class researchers based at the Child & Family Research Institute (CFRI).
The overall goal of this program is to train recent PhDs, MDs and MD-PhD graduates to conduct clinical/translational research in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment with intent to develop future leaders in child health research. The program is designed to attract new talent, and preference will be given to applicants from outside BC.
The program provides scholars with a generous stipend of $70,000/year for 3 – 5 years. In the first two years, additional funds are available for research-related expenses ($10,000/year) and travel expenses to attend conferences ($3,000/year).

The Fahs-Beck Fund for Research and Experimentation is accepting applications for behavioral or psychological research studies based in the United States or Canada.
Through its Faculty/Post-Doctoral Fellows program, the fund will award grants of up to $20,000 to support studies aimed at developing, refining, evaluating, and/or disseminating innovative interventions designed to prevent or ameliorate major social, psychological, behavioral, or public health problems affecting children, adults, couples, families, or communities. In addition, the fund will consider studies that have the potential for adding significantly to knowledge about such problems. Projects must focus on the United States or Canada or on a comparison between the U.S. or Canada and at least one other country.
To be eligible, applicants must be a faculty member at an accredited college or university or an individual affiliated with an accredited human service organization that is considered tax exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. In addition, the principal investigator must have an earned doctorate in a relevant discipline and relevant experience.

Dr. (Henry) Norman Bethune (1890-1939) was a Canadian physician who in the 1930s spearheaded the implementation of the first practical mobile blood collection and distribution system and promoted universal access to health care. This symposium is held in his honour and will be informative and entertaining, with participation of a full range of scientists and clinicians at all levels of training.

CIHR – Meet the new Scientific Director of CIHR, Institute of Gender and Health

Dr. Cara Tannenbaum, the new Scientific Director of the Institute of Gender and Health (IGH) of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, invites you to attend a meet & greet information session at the University of British Columbia. Cara would like to extend her greetings to the Vancouver research community, briefly highlight areas of interest and opportunity in IGH’s Strategy 2017, discuss the recent changes to CIHR’s structure and funding programs, and explain the role of the Sex and Gender Champion in upcoming funding initiatives.
