We are pleased to announce that Dr. Caron Strahlendorf has been nominated for the YWCA Metro Vancouver 2014 Women of Distinction Award. This nomination recognizes the outstanding work of Dr. Strahlendorf, a Pediatric Oncologist and Hematologist with the Division of Oncology/Hematology/BMT, at BC Children’s Hospital. The awards honour individuals and organizations whose work contributes to the well-being and future of the community.
A pediatric oncologist for 20 years, Caron blends innovative science with humanity and compassion in caring for children with cancer. She is honoured by junior staff for outstanding mentorship and by the Canadian Cancer Society for her significant volunteer work as Medical Director for Camp Goodtimes. Caron established and leads Canada’s leading pediatric aphaeresis and stem cell program, co-chairs BC Children’s and BC Women’s Hospital’s Research Ethics Board, is Site Principal Investigator for the Children’s Oncology Group, oversees a trust that funds cancer education and research and is influencing clinical practice with her doctoral research on hope and spirituality in adolescents with cancer.
