Biography:
Dr. Synnes completed medical school at McGill University, internship in Norway, pediatric residency at the Hospital for Sick Children and neonatology subspecialty training at Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto and BC Children’s Hospital. She has been a staff neonatologist at McGill University and joined BC Women’s Hospital in 1999.

She is a Clinical Professor at the University of British Columbia and researcher at the BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute. She was a steering committee member of the Canadian Neonatal Network from 1994-2010 and founding director of the Canadian Neonatal Follow-Up Network.

Her research interests and are of expertise include the care and management of prematurity, leader in neonatal follow-up and outcomes of prematurity, pain, stress and cortisol, brain injury, dysmaturation and neuroimaging, quality improvement and knowledge translation, epidemiology, leading and supporting research locally, nationally and internationally and the importance of parents in childhood outcomes.
