The purpose of this funding opportunity is to create a Registry of DOHaD cohort studies that will provide a database of metadata and definition of variables from all relevant Canadian cohorts, thereby linking them in a way that facilitates larger and better powered studies.
The specific objectives of the registry are to:
  • Create a user-friendly, effective platform to support data interoperability and improve harmonization practices;
  • Accelerate research and reduce cost by leveraging collaborative and/or cross-disciplinary research among Canadian researchers and their international collaborators;
  • Broaden research perspectives by enabling national and international large-scale collaborative analyses.
The total amount available for this funding opportunity is $1,300,000 over 5 years or a maximum of $260,000 per annum – enough to fund one grant. This amount may increase if additional funding partners confirm their participation in this initiative.

AWARDS AND HONOURS:
Prostate Cancer Foundation – Stupski Prize in Prostate Cancer Computational Oncology
The Prostate Cancer Foundation is pleased to announce the Stupski Prize in Prostate Cancer Computational Oncology, a first-in-field initiative designed to attract novel ideas to the field of cancer bioinformatics. These solutions will help clinicians and researchers optimize treatment for individual prostate cancer patients and will likely lead to breakthroughs in other cancers as common molecular drivers are uncovered.
A total of five $25,000 prizes will be awarded over the next two years. Additional details on this initiative may be found in the official press release here.
The inaugural Stupski Prize was awarded to Nikolaus Schultz, PhD, for his work developing the cBioPortal for Cancer Genomics. Future prizes will be awarded as a result of global, crowdsourced competitions. All interested parties are encouraged to sign up on the PCF website to be notified of upcoming Stupski Prize competitions.

Blood platelets are produced by bone marrow megakaryocytes in a process that requires extensive membrane rearrangements. These include the formation of the demarcation membrane system, the surface‐connected membrane extension that invaginates into the cell body and elaborates to provide membranes for future platelets. Our current research is focused on the cellular mechanisms and membrane binding and deforming proteins involved in the formation of this unique internal membrane system. In this talk, we will highlight our recent efforts to characterize the role of the large GTPase dynamin 2 and the F‐BAR protein PACSIN2 in receptor‐mediated endocytosis required for megakaryocyte development and platelet production.
