October 31, 2013, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation – Records for Life: A Design Contest that can Save Lives Deadline: October 31, 2013 The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has launched Records for Life: A Design Contest that can Save Lives. This new grant opportunity seeks individuals or teams to re-examine the current child health record and design new ways to accurately track vaccine doses, increase ease of interpretation and use, and incite behavior change to make the record a valued asset for health professionals and families alike. Warren Alpert Foundation Prize: The Warren Alpert Foundation Prize recognizes one or more scientists whose scientific achievements have led to the prevention, cure or treatment of human diseases or disorders, and/or whose research constitutes a seminal scientific finding that holds great promise of ultimately changing our understanding of and/or ability to treat disease. The $250,000 Prize is open to scientists, physicians, and researchers from any country. Nominations must be received by November 1, 2013.
Leukemia & Lymphoma Society – The New Idea Award LOI Deadline: November 1, 2013 The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is proud to announce our second year of The New Idea Award, a grant program designed to identify novel research strategies with high potential for high impact on the future of blood cancer treatment(s). Specifically, this program supports academic researchers with innovative ideas for approaches that are substantially different from standard therapies and prognostic/diagnostic modalities, as well as ideas that may fundamentally change our understanding of blood cancer(s). Does your idea, approach, or methodology have the potential to move your research and the field in a new direction? ALSF's Innovation Award provides seed funding for proof-of-concept proposals. Canadian Medical Association (CMA) – 2014 CMA Awards Deadline: November 30, 2013. The Canadian Medical Association (CMA) invites nominations for its 2014 CMA Awards. The CMA has 13 awards to recognize the dedication, successes and talents of Canadian men and women who have made significant contributions in a number of different spheres. Three of the 13 awards pertain to research accomplishments – Medal of Honour, William Marsden, and Young Leaders. The Young Investigator Award provides start-up funds for new scientists at the end of their fellowship training or early in their research career. Developing an impactful line of research and a sustainable career in pediatric oncology research are key components of this grant program. The award is $100,000 over two years. Alex’s Lemonade Stand – Epidemiology Grants Deadline: December 16th, 2013; ALSF provides funding that will allow investigators to pursue novel and promising epidemiological approaches to understanding childhood cancers. New in 2014, we have expanded our eligible areas of investigation to include comparative effectiveness and outcomes research. Proposals for evaluating effectiveness of interventions related to prevention, detection and treatment of childhood cancer will be considered. Maximum $100,000 of direct costs will be awarded to applicants annually and a maximum of two years of funding may be requested. Please review the application guidelines.
