Dr. Julia Panczuk

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Julia Panczuk to the Division of Neonatology, at the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor.

Dr. Panczuk was born and raised in Niagara Falls, Ontario.  She completed her undergraduate degree in Biology at Queen’s University and pursued a career in medicine by obtaining her MD at the University of Toronto. She travelled to the west coast to complete her Pediatrics residency through the University of British Columbia, and then obtained a fellowship in Neonatal-Perinatal medicine through the University of Toronto. Julia procured a third year of fellowship as a Clinical Research Fellow at the Hospital for Sick Children where she acted as Chief Administrative fellow for the University of Toronto fellowship program. She then embarked on a Masters of Public Health through the University of Liverpool, and pursued research activity in her main area of interest, which is neonatal nutrition.

Her project interests include investigation of the microbiome among very low birth weight infants, novel biomarkers of gastrointestinal inflammation, and neurodevelopmental outcomes of small for gestational age infants. She has an interest in neonatal follow-up, as well as in medical education of trainees in neonatology.

Julia has once again heeded the call of the west to Vancouver and is thrilled to begin her position as Clinical Academic Neonatologist at BC Women’s and Children’s Health Centre.
